Blended Learning at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
Blended Learning refers to a combination of distance and attended learning elements. It is a great way to meet your course mates and tutors, and gain hands-on experience, whilst retaining the flexibility and accessibilty of a distance learning course.
Distance learning comes with many benefits, and learning online in the way that suits you can be very effective and motivating. But here at the Botanics, Edinburgh, we have a great wealth of resources and expertise, not to mention a beautiful and varied living plant collection, and we want to share it with you!
That's why most of our courses on PropaGate Learning have an attended element (optional in some cases). For some courses, such as our Diploma in Botanical Illustration you opt to spend 1 intensive week per year here at the Gardens, giving you valuable contact and practical time with your tutors and visiting artists, and a chance to soak up the fantastic atmosphere and wonderful plant life.
The RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture comes with the option of visiting the gardens for a series of study weekends. You will be able to get to know your classmates and many of the staff and tutors here at the Gardens, and also have a chance to get your hands dirty! The attended element of these two courses is not included in the course fee as it is optional.
Our Distance RBGE Diploma in Herbology and our DistanceRBGE Diploma in Garden History comprise a blend of both study weekends (held at RBGE) and our online ‘Propagate Learning’ environment. There are usually about 4 throughout a 4 year course.
